Me and My Winter Games, the first animated movie featuring the mascots of the Olympic Games, will be released soon. Vick, Briar and Bramble, characters from Fantawild’s hit animated show Boonie Cubs, join other Chinese cartoon characters on a fantastic journey alongside the mascots for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games: Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon.
The production is significant as it’s the first time animated characters from different generations have joined forces in such a manner. The movie doesn’t just feature characters loved by youngsters, such as those from Boonie Cubs and Big Ear Tutu, but includes characters from Nonhuman,a cartoon adapted from a comic which is popular among teenagers; characters from classic Chinese animations like Monkey King, Calabash Brothers and Snow Kid; and Sheriff Black Cat from 80’s cartoon Black Cat Detective. These iconic characters will charm audiences in a fast-paced, action-packed plot which encourages the nation to show their support for Winter Games athletes.
In Boonie Cubs’ part of the movie, a rose grown by young Vick plays an important role. Vick and his friends set out on an exhilarating adventure across snowed covered Pine Tree Mountain with Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon to deliver the rose to a female Winter Olympic Games athlete. Movements similar to those found in Winter Olympic events such as skiing, ice hockey, figure skating, bobsleigh and skeleton, are seamlessly woven into the animation. Audiences will gain a little insight into these competitions while enjoying a fun and entertaining family film. The movie highlights values of the Olympic Games, such as bravery and unity, as Vick and his friends work together in a race against time.
So far, 7 family-friendly Boonie Bears movies have grossed over 3 billion RMB at the Chinese box office. They have also garnered much praise from overseas audiences. The latest film installment, Boonie Bears: Back to Earth, is set to be released on the first day of Chinese New Year 2022.
Fantawild also combines animation with tourism, giving a further boost and more exposure to the Boonie Bears brand. The first Boonie Bears themed hotel opened in 2021in the city of Tianjin, and many Boonie Bears themed amusement parks and water parks are currently in the development stage. In the future, Fantawild plans to continue promoting Chinese culture to the world, completing its industrial chain in the fields of entertainment and culture, all with Boonie Bears at the core.
